Once your dog knows how to lie down, its fairly simple to teach him how to crawl.

Remember:
Before this training, your dog must havelearned how to sit and lie. Let your dog lie down first, then say "crawl" to him and give a gesture (reach out your two hands with palmdown, extend and bend them continuously). If your dog crawls forwardaccording to your request, give him a reward. By contraries,if your dogdoes not crawl but stand up, order him to lie down first, at the sametime, push his back with your left hand and let him crawl. Repeat againand again, it will develop his ability to crawl forward soon.

- Teach your dog to lie down.
- Kneel or sit next to your dog with a small treat.
- Drag the treat away in front of him on the floor. Keep your freehand over the dog to "help" him stay down near the floor. Dont use thecommand "crawl" or "sneak" at first. Make sure your dog understands theaction before you associate a verbal command with it.
- Please, be patient while repeating this a few times. Try teaching him in 5-10 minute intervals up to a few times a day.
- If you dont need to "help" him stay down any more, try placing thetreat a few feet away and dragging your finger on the floor slowly tothe treat.
- For extra credit, have your dog stay next to you while you toss atreat a few feet away. Have him crawl away from you to fetch it.

- Its a good idea to use a hand or body gesture for every trick youteach him. This helps emphasize that you want him to do something foryou.
- Be patient. Some dogs take longer to train than others.
- If your dog isnt in the mood to learn, dont force him.
- Try teaching him in shorter intervals fewer times a day.
- Be sure to reward him randomly when he lies down, even if youreteaching him to crawl. This will help the dog learn that "Lie down,Scooter." didnt turn into "Crawl over here, Scooter." That way hewont start crawling each time you ask him to lie down.
