NASA is noted for its incredible photography of space, earth and our farthest reaches of the known Universe. NASA officials wrote in an image descrip tion. "The condition of the frog, however, is uncertain."
The shot was captured on September 7th during the launch of the Lunar Atmosphere and Dust Environment Explorer (LADEE), and NASAs photo team confirms the image is genuine.
The frogs unfortunate encounter was with a rocket carrying NASAs LADEE spacecraft. The result is a tiny silhouette of a frog being blasted some 30ft in the air, engulfed in smokey exhaust of the shuttle.
The robotic LADEE probe is now on a month-long journey to the moon where it is tasked with investigating the mysteries of lunar dust and the moons thin atmosphere. It is the first moon-bound mission to launch from NASAs Virginia facility. Image credit:

Thiss not the first time a critter has been adversely affected by a NASA mission. In 2009 a small fruit bat attempted to hitch a ride on the space shuttle Discovery as it launched from the space agencys Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral.
